Significant feature of the Indian economy since independence is the rapid growth of the small industry sector. The Industrial Policy Resolution of 1956 states that "small-scale industries provide immediate large-scale employment; they offer a method of ensuring a more equitable distribution of national income and they facilitate an effective mobilization of resources of capital and skill which might otherwise remain unutilized. Some of the problems that unplanned urbanization tends to create will be avoided by the establishment of small centre of industrial productions all over the country".

In many developing countries, manpower is relatively abundant. It is, therefore imperative that their full and effective utilization should become a focal point of socio-economic policies Emphasis has to be laid on small-scale industry to absorb the surplus manpower in these countries.

This book covers the impact of new economic policy, viz., LPG on small-scale industries the problems which are faced by SSI and measures to overcome the problems of SSI.
