Recent Advances in Otolaryngology: Head and Neck Surgery
Given the scope and amount of recent research and progress in otolaryngology, the authors present recent advances and current treatment options in the field.
The purpose is to describe recent advances in otolaryngology, including diagnostic resources and surgical modalities. A resource such as this is a very helpful adjunct to otolaryngologists' basic armamentarium of literature as it highlights progress in areas to guide further study. This book, while not delving into the complexities of each subject, succeeds in summarizing recent advances in the field.
It is geared toward training or practicing otolaryngologists who already have a knowledge base in this area. The material in this book builds on this knowledge base to summarize recent improvements, advances, and trends in these areas. The authors are well attuned to this goal and have highlighted the important aspects of each subject.
The book covers recent relevant topics in all the subspecialties of otolaryngology. Each chapter begins with a short summary overview of a topic and what recent advances make it relevant to the book. The pictures and tables are high quality and helpful, but some surgical pictures could be enhanced with labeling on the actual picture in addition to the caption explanations.
With the understanding that this is an adjunct to the more
in-depth literature base in otolaryngology, the book does a good job of
highlighting and summarizing recent trends and advances. The discussions
provide a good direction for further study and research. An annual
update would be a very helpful tool for both training and practicing
otolaryngologists.
