Textbook of Systemic Vasculitis
The book has six sections. The first section deals with epidemiology,
genetics, and classification of vasculitis syndrome. There are likely to
be changes in the classification system once the results of some of the
ongoing studies become available, and these can be incorporated in the
subsequent editions of the book. The second section deals with basic
sciences and discusses the role of neutrophils, antineutrophil
cytoplasmic antibodies, and details skin, nerves and brain, lungs and
kidney pathology. The understanding of vasculitis can never be complete
without the knowledge of pathology, and hence a special emphasis has
been laid down on the details of pathological changes in the areas most
commonly inflicted by these diseases. These sections contain innumerable
illustrative microphotographs of various pathological changes in
different organs and would be of interest to both the clinicians and
pathologists. The third section deals with imaging modalities as they
have assumed a significant role in diagnosing and assessing disease
activity. The fourth section deals with the clinical manifestations
based upon organ system. The fifth section has chapters detailing the
approach to children and adults with vasculitis and assessing disease
activity and damage. Newer therapies have been shown great promise in
management of these disorders, thus newer and future modalities have
been discussed in this section. The last section deals with the
individual vasculitis syndromes. Management of these diseases is a
challenge.
