Yearbook of Anesthesiology-5
The topics for this volume have been selected to cover all aspects of current anesthesia practices. While a few like oncoanesthesia, postoperative vision loss, ambulatory surgery in the obese and pharmacological therapies for perioperative blood loss have been recently reviewed in various anesthesia journals, others like management of anemia and parathyroid surgery, malignant hyperthermia and awareness under anesthesia are the ones that have not been recently dwelled upon. Basics of anesthesia have been well covered in chapters on tissue oxygenation, mechanism of pain and analgesia, renin-angiotensin system, ischemic-reperfusion injuries and place of ketamine in modern anesthesia practice. The topics such as fibromyalgia, continuous peripheral nerve blocks and ventilator-associated pneumonia have been revisited and the recent evidence if any has been updated. The specialty subjects such as aortic aneurysm surgery, video-assisted thoracic surgery, peripartum cardiomyopathy, management of organ transplanted patients coming for incidental surgery and closedloop anesthesia systems have been covered by experts in these fields. Airway management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation is an integral part of anesthesia training and two chapters have been devoted to the art of tracheal extubation and how advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) can be applied in contemporary anesthesia practice. Target Audience Traninees, practicing anesthesiologists, and the intensivists.
